Collaboration and empowerment are central themes of Creating Value Inc. The social purpose consulting firm works with organizations and networks that want to create a positive social or environmental impact, helping them to create alignment and move purposefully towards a shared vision.
“Community and connection is so important. If change moves at the speed of trust, then supporting the development of strong connections is critical to being able to create meaningful change in our communities, says Alix Linaker, Project Coordinator.
The Creating Value team walks their own talk. Alix is co-chair of the local volunteer-run chapter of Acumen, cultivating connections within Calgary for social entrepreneurs. Founder Jill Andres is “Changemaker in Residence” at Mount Royal University, working with students, staff, faculty and administration to create a cross-campus culture of changemaking. Jill also sits on the board of directors for REAP.
Alix has been with Creating Value, for nearly two years. “Everyone on the Creating Value team is involved in extracurriculars in our community, but we’re also tied to the community through the local clients we work with,” she says. She recalls a collective impact initiative with Dementia Network Calgary. The initiative brough together people from across the public, private and nonprofit sectors to work together to enable people impacted by dementia to live life well. That, says Alix, has been her most rewarding experience so far.
“I love the idea of people who normally wouldn’t work together coming together to solve a complex social problem.”
